Les experts de l’ONU ont affirmé dans un communiqué que les femmes et les filles déplacées à l’intérieur du pays, qui vivent dans des zones de déplacement inadéquates et précaires, sont particulièrement exposées à la violence sexuelle.
Le manque de protection des autorités envers la sécurité des femmes haïtiennes a suscité des inquiétudes parmi les experts, qui ont souligné que cette situation est également le résultat de discriminations préexistantes à la crise actuelle.
Selon les experts, il est important que personne ne soit contraint de faire le choix entre sa sécurité et la capacité à subvenir à ses besoins et à ceux de sa famille, à fréquenter l’école, à bénéficier des soins de santé et des services de base, tels que les soins sexuels et reproductifs.
Ils ont aussi mis en évidence l’importance des voix et des perspectives des femmes dans le processus de transition politique, afin d’éviter que les violations généralisées des droits des femmes et des filles ne se reproduisent et que les personnes responsables de ces violations soient tenues responsables.
Les experts onusiens ont conclu en demandant aux autorités de prendre toutes les mesures requises afin d’assurer la pleine et égale participation des femmes au processus de consolidation de la paix, en accord avec la résolution 1325 du Conseil de sécurité.
Il convient de souligner que les actions violentes perpétrées par des groupes armés à Port-au-Prince ont entraîné l’exode de plus de 53 000 individus en trois semaines, comme l’a mentionné l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM) dans son rapport le 2 avril 2024.
Le 8 au 27 mars 2024, 53 125 personnes ont dû quitter la zone métropolitaine en raison de l’augmentation de la violence dans la capitale haïtienne, confrontée à une situation qualifiée de « cataclysmique » par l’ONU avec des gangs armés qui contrôlent plus de 80% de Port-au-Prince.
