Selon l’agence de presse italienne Ansa, le salaire mensuel d’un cardinal dirigeant un dicastère s’élève à environ 5 000 euros. En septembre dernier, le pape François avait adressé une lettre à l’ensemble des cardinaux pour les exhorter à contribuer à la réduction du déficit budgétaire du Vatican. Selon un rapport publié par le quotidien italien La Repubblica en juillet, ce déficit dépassait les 83 millions d’euros en 2023.
