Des organisateurs ont annulé le concert de Michel Martelly, ancien président haïtien et célèbre sous le nom de scène « Sweet Micky », qui devait avoir lieu le 1er septembre 2024 à New York lors des célébrations du « Labor Day ». Ce choix s’inscrit dans le cadre des pressions liées aux sanctions en cours contre Martelly pour trafic de drogue et son supposé soutien à des gangs criminels.
L’annulation survient à la suite d’une série de manifestations organisées par des membres de la diaspora haïtienne à New York, qui s’opposaient à sa présence aux États-Unis.
Un autre promoteur, Moe Jersey, a informé que les autorités locales avaient décidé de reporter le concert prévu le dimanche 25 août 2024. On a rapporté que le concert a été scellé par un appel direct du chef de la police de la ville au propriétaire de la salle « Empire Lounge », avec la menace de sanctions sévères, y compris des peines de prison, pour toute entreprise qui collaborerait avec Martelly.
En plus de la pression des autorités, Moe Jersey a révélé avoir reçu de nombreux appels et lettres de différentes organisations locales demandant l’annulation de la performance de Sweet Micky.
