Un arrêté du 20 mai du gouvernement prolonge d’un mois l’état d’urgence dans tout le département de l’Ouest, du 9 mai au 8 juin 2024. Un couvre-feu est également en vigueur dans toute cette région à compter du 22 mai 2024.
Dans le département de l’Ouest, toutes manifestations sur la voie publique sont interdites, de jour comme de nuit, selon un communiqué gouvernemental signé par le Premier ministre a.i., Michel Patrick Boisvert. Les forces de l’ordre utiliseront toutes les mesures juridiques à leur disposition pour faire respecter le couvre-feu, y compris l’arrestation de tous les contrevenants.
Toutefois, le communiqué souligne le fait que la mesure gouvernementale ne concerne pas les agents de la force publique en service, les pompiers, les ambulanciers, les professionnels de santé et les journalistes.
Il est important de rappeler que le gouvernement a pris un décret le 3 avril 2024 instaurant l’état d’urgence sur l’ensemble du territoire du département de l’Ouest pour une durée d’un mois, du jeudi 4 avril au vendredi 3 mai 2024. L’objectif de cette mesure était de reprendre le contrôle de la situation dans le département de l’Ouest, qui connaissait une augmentation de la violence des bandes armées.
